Drawing Contest

15th April 2013

PRESS RELEASE

The winners of the drawing competition “Painting Greece”, organized by the non-profit organization Heritage&Museums-Art, Culture & Education Around the World, in cooperation with the Region of Attica Governor’s Office and the Athens Municipality Organization for Culture, Sports and Youth, were announced during the opening ceremony of the exhibition.

The first prize winner, 13-year old Symela Papadogiannaki, by the initiative of Heritage&Museums, will go to a 3-day educational trip to Belgium with one of her parents. There, they will have guided tours by world renounced personalities from the museum field, to the Gallo-Romeins Museum Tongeren (received in 2012 the European Museum of the Year Award) but also to the STAM in Ghent and MAS in Antwerp, nominated for 2014 European Museum of the Year Award, of the EMF-European Museum Forum. She also won a scholarship for drawing lessons and an iPad. Heritage & Museums offered to the winners of the top six prizes cash awards and the talented pupils also received scholarships for drawing lessons.

In times of crisis, our goal is to enhance the educational role of art and museums, turning the interest of pupils and their families into the preservation and promotion of our cultural heritage, granting them at the same time a message of optimism.

Heritage&Museums supported and offered the prizes to one more cultural activity, which we believe will become an annual institution, allowing children to visit museums that have been awarded by the Council of Europe, but also from the European Museum Forum, in which Heritage & Museums’ president, Ms Lila de Chaves is a member of the board of directors.

Seventy of the children’s drawings will be presented in the exhibition at the “Art Center”of the Athens Municipality from the 12th until the 27th April 2013.
